SLO's Fontes headed to Cal State East Bay for soccer

San Luis Obispo High senior girls soccer star Shannon Fontes has committed to continue her career at Division II Cal State East Bay (formerly Cal State Hayward), Tigers coach John Clarke said Thursday.

Fontes, a four-year varsity starter at San Luis Obispo, was named to the CIF-Southern Section all-Division 3 team this past season after posting 10 goals and 14 assists and helping lead the Tigers through a 23-4-2 campaign that reached the divisional semifinals.

“I think she’s definitely going to be a huge impact player (at Cal State East Bay),” Clarke said.

As a junior, Fontes compiled 11 goals and 15 assists en route to being named to the all-divisional second team and the all-PAC 7 first team.

The Pioneers, who play in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, went 3-14-3 overall this past year.
