The North County Christian High baseball team routed California Military Institution of Perris 22-4 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 first-round playoff game Thursday.
With the win, the Crusaders (17-0) — the No. 2 overall seed in the division — advanced to face either New Community Jewish or Wildwood in the second round at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Taylor Brard hit a two-run home run for the Crusaders in the fifth inning Thursday and added a triple. On the mound, he struck out five batters in two innings.
Daniel Katches was 4 for 5 with four RBI and two doubles for North County Christian, and teammate Tyler Roth was 3 for 4 with three RBI and three doubles.
California Military scored all four of its runs on seven walks in the fourth. North County Christian’s Josh Feld struck out seven in three innings and was 2 for 4 with three RBI and one double at the plate.
Corcoran 9, Mission Prep 3
Corcoran scored seven runs in the third inning to oust the Royals in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-Central Section Division 5 playoffs.
Ray Hurwitz and Art Lane each had a single and one RBI for Mission Prep, and Anthony Bosshardt pitched three hitless innings.
“We were beat by a better team, but overall it was a good season,” Mission Prep coach Gerry Detz said.
Burroughs 3, Paso Robles 2
Paso Robles (13-14) faced a 2-2 tie until the seventh inning, when Burroughs of Burbank scored the winning run.
The Bearcats turned two double plays and got solid pitching performances from Jenna Wookey and Amanda Searcy.
Lauren Redberg and Alexa Muñoz were both 1 for 3 for Paso Robles. Jennifer Hernandez added an RBI.
“We played a really good game and the girls as a team did a great job,” Paso Robles coach Val Reynolds said.
Bellarmine-Jefferson 18, North County Christian 7
Cheyenne Ricks was 4 for 4 for the Crusaders (13-5) with three runs scored.
Laura Tapanes was 2 for 3 with two RBI and one run scored for the Crusaders in the season-ending defeat.
