The Mission Prep softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-Central Section Division 5 playoffs Wednesday with a 9-7 first-round win at Lindsay.
The 10th-seeded Royals (11-6), who have won five of six overall, will next face No. 2 seed Riverdale (23-7), which opened with a bye, at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
“As a coach, it’s rewarding to see a group of players mold into a team and reach their potential,” Mission Prep coach Marshall Ochylski said of the Royals’ late-season surge.
Ally Kersthold was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, two doubles and four RBI for Mission Prep, while teammate Kyra Joseph added a 3-for-5, two-run, two-RBI performance.
