SLO woman picked for U.S. national football team

Knengi Martin of San Luis Obispo was one of 45 women picked to play for USA Football’s 2010 Women’s National Team.

This past season, Martin, 25, was the MVP of the California Quake — a Los Angeles-based member of the Independent Women’s Football League — after starring at linebacker, tight end, running back and kick returner.

The national team will compete in the inaugural International Federation of American Football Women’s World Championships this summer in Stockholm, Sweden, against a six-nation field including Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany and Sweden.
