The Arroyo Grande High boys soccer team’s run in the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 was halted Thursday in a 3-0 loss to top seed Baldwin Park.
The Eagles (19-8-2), seeded eighth in the division, gave up a deflating goal in the final two minutes of the first half on the road against the still unbeaten Braves (24-0-2), and it was a backbreaker.
“I felt like we had the momentum at that point in the first half, and that sort of took the air out of the balloon for the kids,” Arroyo Grande coach Brad Bowdey said.
Eagles keeper Bryan Rivas, who made three saves, let a soft shot escape his grasp, and allowed Baldwin Park to score on the rebound, Bowdey said.

When Arroyo Grande came out of halftime leaving itself more vulnerable defensively in attempt to equalize, things further unraveled.
“We just battled and gave up another somewhat easy goal for them,” Bowdey said. “At that point, we were pushing kids up, and the third goal came late when we were pretty soft defensively because we were trying to get back in the game.”
Each team recorded six shots on goal. Morgan Wack, Dylan Efron and Christian Garcia each had two apiece for the Eagles.
