The Morro Bay High wrestling team came up just shy of repeating as CIF-Southern Section Division VI champions, falling 39-25 to Bloomington in the championship match in Moreno Valley on Saturday.
“Bloomington really didn’t have a weakness from (wrestlers) 1 to 14 and they proved that,” Morro Bay coach Michael Aanerud said.
The top-seeded Pirates (9-1) beat Sierra Vista 63-3 in the quarterfinals and Bishop Alemany 36-27 to reach the finals.
Aaron Mininni pinned all three of his opponents during the tournament at 140 pounds while Jaccob Carlson (119 pounds) and Patrick Kelly (135) also swept all three matches.
