Prep Basketball: Tigers stop Panthers in PAC 7 basketball

Junior center Sean Mullen led the San Luis Obispo High boys basketball team with 13 points in its 45-29 PAC 7 league-opening win over Pioneer Valley at home Tuesday.

Steve Sainsbury, a junior guard, followed Mullen with 11 points for the Tigers (3-3).

San Luis Obispo trailed 18-17 at halftime but outscored the Panthers 11-2 in the third quarter to solidify its lead.Anthony Zepeda led Pioneer Valley with nine points.

San Marcos 63, Arroyo Grande 60, 2 OT

The host Eagles were outscored by three in the second overtime, suffering just their second loss of the season.

Derick Beasley had a team-best 17 points for Arroyo Grande (8-2), which led 25-22 at halftime.

Matt McAustin added nine points in defeat.

Atascadero 58, Santa Barbara 36

Hayden Mislavsky led Atascadero (7-3) with eight points.

Sam McMillan added seven for Atascadero, which led 25-13 at halftime.

Weston Walker chipped in six points for the Greyhounds, who were 11 of 22 from the free-throw line.

North County Christian 62, Coast Union 52

Coast Union couldn’t close the gap on only a three-point halftime deficit.

Caleb Katches led North County Christian (4-6) with 28 points, and Josh Feld followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Ramiro Medina led Coast Union with 13 points, and Eddie Salazar had 12.


San Luis Obispo 62, Pioneer Valley 59, OT

Abigail Will’s free throw sent the game into overtime, where the Tigers (4-5, 1-0 PAC 7) regrouped after blowing a 14-point lead to start the fourth quarter.

San Luis Obispo’s Hannah Kenny led all scorers with 22 points while Kelsey O’Hagan added 14.

O’Hagan hit two 3-pointers in overtime before an injury forced her to leave the game. Tigers coach Mike Godsey said that she tweaked her knee and it was unclear how long she would be out.

Atascadero 54, Salinas 26

Raven Taylor was the leading scorer for the Greyhounds with 15 points, and Shannon Berwick followed with 11 in the win at home.

Atascadero (7-2) had a 13-point lead at halftime and added to it after the break, giving up just 15 points in the second half.

Alyssa Palma had eight assists and nine rebounds for the Greyhounds.

North County Christian 60, Coast Union 35

Brianna Feld led the Crusaders with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Cristy Scarson followed with 16 points.

North County Christian (4-3) led throughout, and held a 24-point advantage after the first half.

Ashley Lorenz led Coast Union with 11 points and 20 rebounds. Coast Union had 37 turnovers.
