Prep Roundup: Greyhounds water polo drops two

At the Clovis Tournament on Saturday, Redwood defeated Atascadero High’s boys water polo team 7-6.The score was 4-4 at halftime.

Levi Adams and Chad Ponek led Atascadero with two goals each. Patrick Neil made 10 saves.

In Saturday’s second game, Adams led Atascadero (11-7) with three goals in an 11-6 loss to Garces. Neil made eight saves, but the Greyhounds were outscored 6-1 in the second half.

“We had a couple of good games,” said Atascadero coach Mitch Stafford. “Some calls didn’t go our way, but this was a good match to head into league next week.”


Shandon 24, Rincon Valley Christian 24, tie

Andrew Eastbrook led Shandon (4-2-1) with 127 yards on 10 carries. Aaron Valdez scored two touchdowns for Shandon.

Because it was a nonleague game, Shandon coach Rick Acebo said there was no overtime period.

“We fell behind early on and came back to tie,” Acebo said. “Our defense was able to hold on and we did a pretty good job.”


Mission Prep’s Brian McAllen finished 24th at the Hanford Invitational in a time of 18 minutes, 23 seconds over the 5K course. Keegan Nelson finished 57th in 21:17. No other information was available.
