Prep Football Roundup: Burbank, Paso Robles Bearcats roll over Lompoc

Paso Robles High running back Robbie Burbank rushed for 210 yards and four touchdowns to help the Bearcats (3-3, 1-0 PAC 7) to a 35-10 PAC 7 win over Lompoc on the road Friday night.

Bearcats quarterback Thomas Bernal returned from an injury to gain 101 yards on nine carries. He finished 7-of-15 passing for 63 yards with one interception.

“It was a really nice way to start league,” Paso Robles coach Rich Schimke said. “We were able to get everyone into the game. It’s nice to see kids that really work hard every day get an opportunity to play.”

The Bearcats led 14-3 at halftime and didn’t give up a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter.

Templeton 50, Santa Maria 13

Christian Gomez scored on runs of 12 and 56 yards and added an 81-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Eagles (5-1, 2-1 Los Padres League) won on the road.

Templeton quarterback Nolan Hildebrand threw touchdown passes of 31 and 44 yards to Dakota Oropeza, while teammate Daniel Wheeler had a 73-yard punt return touchdown.

Despite the score, Templeton coach Dave Harper said the game was hard-fought.

“Looking at the score didn’t reflect how well Santa Maria played tonight,” Harper said. “They played us tough, but we just got some big plays.”

The Eagles were without several starters because of a flu outbreak among the team, but Harper said the backups stepped in well, specifically in the secondary as Santa Maria was held to just six completions in 17 attempts.

St. Joseph 41, Nipomo 0

K.J Cusack scored two touchdowns for St. Joseph and rushed for 155 yards as the Knights (4-0, 6-0 LPL) topped Nipomo (1-2, 3-3 LPL).

Jacob Riveira rushed for 55 yards and scored one touchdown for the Knights.

Eric Penningroth rushed for 104 yards on 21 carries for Nipomo.
