Prep Roundup: Templeton girls win cross country meet

The Templeton High girls cross country team went 6-0 Wednesday afternoon to win at the Cabrillo-hosted Los Padres League dual meet races at the 3-mile course at River Park in Lompoc.

The Eagles’ Kaley Hook posted the top time at 18 minutes, 3.53 seconds, while teammate Savannah Camacho was second in 18:36.88. Kasey Urman added a seventh-place finish in 19:52.38.

Morro Bay’s girls won five races, with Rachael Jelstrom finishing in 20:03. Teammates Lizzy Hoyt and Macey Burgeson both finished in 20:12.

The Morro Bay boys, ranked second in Division IV of the CIF-Southern Section, ran without three top runners in James Shipe, Jose Arroyo and Sterling Duracher, but still won four races. Bryan Carroll came in third at 16:24, followed in 12th by P.J. Van Buren at 16:52.

Mission Prep 3, Dunn 0

The Mission Prep girls volleyball team compiled 24 aces while sweeping visiting Dunn, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14.

“Our serving game has been helping us a lot lately,” Mission Prep coach Michelle Lakey said. “We really threw off their offense.”

Danielle Brescia led the Royals (10-1) with 15 kills, four blocks and three aces, while Andrea Fernandez added nine kills and three aces. Deirdre Laird chipped in with 19 assists in the win.
