Senior running back Marc Martin rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in leading Atascadero to a 31-14 victory over Pioneer Valley in a nonconference football game Friday night at Atascadero High.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Martin scored twice in the second quarter to help the Greyhounds build a 21-0 lead at halftime. Senior running back RJ Reusche added a 3-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and Logan Armstrong’s 22-yard field goal capped a 31-0 run for Atascadero (4-1).
Players of the game: Martin and Reusche continued their strong seasons splitting time in Atascadero’s backfield.

It was the second straight game Martin has rushed for more than 100 yards, bringing his five-game season totals to 501 yards and six rushing touchdowns.
The 6-foot, 191-pound Reusche came on strong in the second half and finished the game with 113 all-purpose yards (73 receiving, 40 rushing).
X-factor: After a slow start to the first quarter for both offenses, junior Tysen Delkener breathed a shot of life into the Atascadero sideline with 39 seconds left.
Delkener fielded a punt at the 50-yard line, made two defenders miss and sprinted around the left side for the game’s first touchdown. He has nearly 400 return yards this season and brings an explosive element to the Greyhounds’ special teams.
Splitting time: Starting quarterback Carson Rinkenberger attempted four passes in the first half and did not play the final two quarters because of an ankle injury.
Elijah Cooks came in to start the third quarter, showing he’s capable of relieving Rinkenberger when needed. Cooks completed 6 of 8 passes for 79 yards and had two carries for 56 more yards.
Up next: The Greyhounds will be home again next week when they host Union City’s James Logan High at 7 p.m.
