Bryce Fledderman passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns in leading Mission Prep to a 36-20 win against visiting St. Anthony in a nonconference football game Friday night at Mission Prep Field.
Junior running back Brayden Corona surpassed the 100-yard mark for the third consecutive game, finishing with 116 yards and two touchdowns for the Royals (3-0).
Fledderman, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound junior, threw all three of his touchdown passes in the first half. He connected with Matthew Simmons, Patrick Miller and Angel Sanchez to help Mission Prep build a 23-14 lead at halftime.
“I’m really excited to finally see our passing game come around,” Mission Prep coach Chad Henry said. “The first two games we struggled in that, and we’ve been working with Bryce on just relaxing and playing the game.”

How it happened: Trailing 7-6 early in the second quarter, Fledderman completed a pass to Miller down the visitors’ sideline and the senior wide receiver ran 82 yards for a touchdown. When Justin McKeague made a 22-yard field goal less than four minutes later, the Royals never trailed the rest of the way.
Fledderman’s third touchdown pass of the game landed in the hands of Sanchez from 13 yards out with 15 seconds left in the first half. He finished 12 of 23 for 295 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Corona keeps churning: The shifty 5-foot-8, 165-pound Corona was a main focus of the St. Anthony defense throughout the first half.
After running for 211 yards in the season-opening win against Rio Hondo Prep and 165 more yards against Crean Lutheran last week, it took some time for Corona to get going on Friday.
He was held to 44 yards on 12 carries in the first half, but eventually holes started to open.
Corona scored a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter and added a 10-yard scoring run with less than seven minutes left in the game.
Through Mission Prep’s first three games of the season, Corona has rushed for 492 yards and seven touchdowns on 63 carries while averaging 7.8 yards per attempt.
Up next: Mission Prep is scheduled to host Chatsworth-based Sierra Canyon next Friday.
The Royals will close out their nonconference schedule against Bishop Diego at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Santa Barbara City College.
Mission Prep’s first Northern League game is against Templeton at home on Oct. 9.
