The Arroyo Grande High boys water polo team overcame a late Bearcats push, beating Paso Robles 12-11 on the road Tuesday in their PAC 8 opener.
Josh Smith, Jack Alexander and Chase Taylor each had three goals in the win for the Eagles (1-2). Ryan Hoover had a pair of goals, and Jared Swenson notched six saves in goal for Arroyo Grande.
Wyatt Spencer and Mitchell Iunker each had three goals for Paso Robles (5-4, 0-1). Spencer sat the entire fourth quarter after receiving his third ejection foul of the game.
Daniel Callahan had a pair of goals, and Zach Tucker and Cy Quinn each had one for Paso Robles.
With a second remaining in the first half, goalie Iver Hansen launched a ball the length of the pool, over the head of Arroyo Grande’s goalie and scored, pulling the Bearcats within 6-5 at halftime. Hansen finished with 11 saves.
The Bearcats have lost four games this year by a total of five goals.
St. Joseph 13, Morro Bay 12
The Pirates led 3-2 after one period and 7-5 at halftime, but the Knights tied the score at 10 entering the fourth quarter and then won the fourth quarter for the nonleague home win.
For Morro Bay (4-5), Filippo Mairitzi, Jack Malzone and Taylor Freeh all had three goals.
