Prep football wrap-up: James Gilmet’s big game leads Arroyo Grande

Arroyo Grande 38, Pioneer Valley 7

The Eagles (2-2) recorded their second consecutive win after dropping the first two games of the season thanks to James Gilmet’s 169 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Arroyo Grande quarterback Kadin Byrnes was 9 of 16 for 112 yards passing with one touchdown, and he also added 67 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Michael McLean added a 59-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Arroyo Grande led 17-0 at halftime and 31-0 at the start of the fourth quarter, a stellar defensive performance highlighted by Dakota Ryken’s six total tackles. The Eagles play host to St. Joseph on Friday.

Templeton 71, Cabrillo (Lompoc) 27

Templeton (2-2) running back Shane Simonin continued his hot streak, rumbling for five touchdowns and 105 yards in the Eagles’ second consecutive win. Simonin has 281 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground in the past two games.

Templeton plays host to undefeated Santa Ynez on Friday.

Santa Ynez 35, Nipomo 3

Santa Ynez (3-0) has outscored its three opponent 163-25 this season, while Nipomo (0-4) is still searching for its first win. The Titans play host to also-winless Cabrillo of Lompoc on Friday.

Cajon (San Bernardino) 48, Paso Robles 21

Paso Robles (0-3) has matched its total losses for all of last season in three games this year. The Bearcats play at Clovis North seeking their first win Friday.

Frontier (Bakersfield) 31, Atascadero 13

The Greyhounds broke their two-game scoreless streak but still fell for the third straight game. Atascadero (1-3) will look to get back on track Friday at home against Madero.
