The Cuesta College women’s basketball team improved upon its record-setting start, as it trounced Butte College 107-49 and set the school’s single-game points mark Friday at its own Phillips 66 Tournament.

The Cougars (7-0) will play rival Hancock College in today’s 4 p.m. championship game.

Courtney Chadwick led Cuesta with 22 points, while Kaylee Williams provided 20 and Miriam Zabinsky had 19.



Win by Cougars earns shot at fifth

Oscar Pedroso had a team-high 26 points, and the Cuesta College men’s basketball team beat Columbia College 84-72 on the third day of a tournament at Modesto Junior College.

Brett Hartshorne helped Cuesta remain in control of the game with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Cougars move to 2-1 in the tournament and look to play Cosumnes River College in the fifth-place game today.



Trio of Cal Poly grapplers advance

Blake Kastl in the 149-pound class, Maxamillian Schneider (157) and Devon Lotito (133) are all still alive in the wrestlebacks at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.

Both Kastl and Schneider and won their first decisions but fell in the quarterfinals. They will join Lotito in the fourth round and wrestle in the morning today.



Cal Poly swimmers compete at AT&T

Paolo Stanchi finished in 17th the men’s 400-yard individual medley in 3 minutes, 55.59 seconds at the AT&T Winter National Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday.

Stanchi is also scheduled to swim in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke today.

Mackey Hopen finished in 24th place in the men’s 100 breaststroke in 55.64 seconds.

The men’s 800 freestyle relay team of Sonny Fierro, Stanchi, Jimmy Deiparine and Caleb Davis finished in eighth place in 6:44.89.
