Cal Poly’s wrestling team used a 61-56 edge in total points to win on a tiebreaker and defeat San Francisco State after the nonconference dual meet had been tied at 16 on Sunday in San Francisco.
All 10 bouts were recorded as decisions, with one major decision on each side, meaning total points determined the outcome to send the Mustangs to a 2-0 overall start.
Cal Poly got victories from Britain Longmire (125 pounds) by a 6-1 overtime decision, Colton Shorts (141) by an 8-1 decision, Blake Kastl (149) by a 3-1 overtime decision, Sohrab Movahedi (165) by a 13-7 decision and Dominic Kastl (174) by a 12-4 major decision.
Cuesta men win third-place game
Brett Hartshorne shot 12 for 13 from the free-throw line on his way to 24 points to lead Cuesta College’s men’s basketball team to a 92-80 victory over Moorpark in the third-place game of the El Camino Invitational on Sunday.

Oscar Pedroso shot 8 for 15 from the floor on his way to 20 points for Cuesta, which improved to 4-3 overall.
The Cougars’ Kyle Geer had 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds on his way to all-tournament honors.
“It was a strategical game for us, probably the best game we’ve played the entire year,” Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said.
Cuesta shot 28 for 37 from the free-throw line for the game, including a 10-for-10 stretch late.
