The Cuesta College baseball team remained in a first-place tie in the Western State Conference Northern Division and moved to .500 for the first time since Feb. 22 with a 4-1 win over L.A. Pierce on Saturday for its fifth straight victory.
Starting pitcher Andrew Nelson played a big part in the Cougars’ win. He pitched all nine innings and gave up one run on three hits. He also had seven strikeouts and two walks.
Parker Hindle went 1 for 3 with three RBI, all coming from a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning to put the Cougars ahead. They held on down the stretch en route to the team’s longest winning streak of the season.
Marco Murillo went 3 for 4 with two runs, Mac Stuart went 1 for 4 with an RBI, and Andrew Montanari went 1 for 3 with a run for Cuesta (15-15, 9-5 WSC).
