Cuesta College starting pitcher Lucas Martin tossed seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) struck out six, and allowed six hits to lead the Cougars (4-4) to a 6-2 baseball win over Porterville on Friday.
Martin (3-0) gave up two runs in the first three innings and a leadoff single in the fourth inning but rebounded to retire 12 of the next 13 batters. Scott Kaul pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings with four strikeouts for his first save of the season.
Center fielder Nicolas Rosso had a two-run single in the bottom of the third to give Cuesta (4-4) the lead for good. Rosso finished 2 for 5 with three RBI. Second baseman Marco Murillo went 3 for 4 for three runs.
Porterville starting pitcher Dakota Kirkman was tagged for four earned runs and seven hits in 2 1⁄3 innings. First baseman James Lopez went 2 for 4 with one RBI.

In the first game of the day at the Sequoias Tournament, Celine Blanco (1-3) threw five innings, gave up four hits and one earned run while not allowing a walk in Cuesta’s victory.
Victoria Roberts pitched the last two innings for her first save.
Kryn Masutani led the Cougars with a double and sacrifice fly in the third inning, which drove in the deciding run. Summer Best had an RBI single.
Taft’s only run came when Venise Elisaza hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning.
In Cuesta’s second game, Bakersfield scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first.
Masutani went 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Cougars (7-8). Jasmine Singh was 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Best was 2 for 4 with a home run.
