Alyssa Palma scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Cuesta women’s basketball team to a 77-51 win over Saddleback at the Allan Hancock Tournament on Thursday.
The Cougars (6-1) lost to the Gauchos in the first round of the same tournament last year.
Palma, an Atascadero High graduate, added nine assists and five rebounds for the Cougars.
Morro Bay graduate Aria Johnson scored 15 for Cuesta, including a 7-for-8 performance from the free-throw line, and had 12 rebounds.

Courtney Chadwick scored 11 points for the Cougars, and Miriam Zabinsky added 10.
Karla Roacha-Cota scored 14 for Saddleback, and Brooke Wright added 11.
Fresno City 95, Cuesta 77
The Rams, the defending state champs, took a large lead early on to defeat the Cougars at the Modesto Tournament.
Fresno City made its first 12 field goals, including seven 3-pointers to take a 30-7 lead in the first four minutes.
Plaman Hristov scored 22 points for Cuesta, and Oscar Pedroso added 13.
The Cougars (7-4) will play Chabot today.
Cuesta players honored
The Cougars had six players named to the Western State Conference all-conference team in voting done by conference’s coaches.
Outside hitter Riley Cooks and setter and former Morro Bay High standout Kylie Gacad were named to the first team.
Middle blocker Stephanie Persky, a Nipomo High graduate, was named to the second team, and Taylor Saenz and Victoria Burkett were honorable mention selections.
