The Cuesta College women's basketball team jumped out to a 44-14 first-half lead and defeated Lassen 70-32 in the consolation final Saturday to finish in fifth place in the Los Positas Tournament.
Courtney Chadwick had 19 points and four steals and was named to the All-Tournament team for Cuesta (2-1). Chadwick averaged 17 points per game in the tournament and made seven three-pointers in three games for the Cougars.
Cuesta’s Aria Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Alyssa Palma had 16 points and six assists.
“We were quicker in the lanes than we had been, so it was nice to finish the tournament strong and play good defense,” coach Ron Barba said.

The lead changed six times, and the score was tied seven times in the Cougars’ loss on the road.
The Knights (3-2) clinched victory in the final two seconds of the game when Devyn Inglehart scored off a running layup.
Cuesta (4-1) led by 10 with 10 minutes to go in the first half but was unable to maintain the lead. The Cougars were 25 for 29 from the free throw line in the game and were 8 for 15 from the 3-point line.
Plamen Hristov led Cuesta with a game-high 26 points, which included 4 for 5 on 3-point attempts and 8 for 8 from the free throw line.
Carson Khirley scored 15 points for the Cougars, and Kenny Robinson added 10.
Inglehart led San Diego with 20 points, and Justice Howard scored 17 for the Knights.
