Tied at 87 at the end of regulation, the Cuesta College men’s basketball team (15-7, 3-1 Western State) defeated L.A. Pierce 98-97 in overtime Wednesday night.
Cuesta’s Calen Coleman and Malte Kramer each had a team-high 19 points. Kramer added a game-high six assists, while Plamen Hristov had nine rebounds.
Both Nick Sauer and Hristov also added 15 points apiece for Cuesta.
L.A. Pierce (5-11, 2-3 WSC) shot over 50 percent from the field, but Cuesta managed to convert 40 percent of their 3-pointers and 20 of 24 from the free-throw line.
L.A. Pierce’s Josh Thomas led all scorers with 31 points.
Cuesta women roll to win
The Cuesta women’s basketball team had six players score in double figures as the Cougars downed L.A. Pierce, 81-61, in a WSC basketball game.
“I thought we played as a team tonight and I thought our defense was very active,” Cuesta head coach Ron Barba said. “I thought the fact we had six players in double figures meant that we distributed the ball well, that was huge.”
Kati Sheldon led the Cougars with 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Anika Bauermeister was close behind with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Aria Johnson had 13 points and team-high 12 rebounds, while both Rachael Warner and Alyssa Palma had 12 points.
Kati Rodriguez added 11 points for Cuesta (10-9, 2-2 WSC).
