The Cuesta College women’s basketball team erased a 12-point deficit to defeat College of the Sequoias 62-56 in a consolation semifinal of the Allan Hancock Tournament on Friday.
Katie Rodriguez had 17 points and four assists for the Cougars (6-4). Anika Bauermeister and Alyssa Palmer scored 10 pints each, and Kati Sheldon had eight points and eight rebounds for Cuesta.
The Cougars shot just 21 for 77 from the field and 3 for 17 from beyond the 3-point line, but thanks to a 10-minute span in the second half where they allowed just six Giants points, they rallied for the win.

California Community College Championships
Cuesta’s Jonathon Gray, competing at 133 pounds, lost on an 8-3 decision to Chris Padilla of Fresno City in the first round of matches in Santa Rosa.
Also competing for the Cougars, at 197 pounds, was Dale Fuller, who lost a 7-2 decision to Fresno City’s Justin Whitten.
