The Cuesta College men’s water polo team, ranked fourth in California, went 1-1 in the second and final day of the Riverside Tournament on Saturday, falling to eventual champion Long Beach before defeating host Riverside on its way to a second-place finish in the round-robin tournament.
In a 12-5 loss to Long Beach, the Cougars (9-8) offense struggled after a three-goal first period, scoring two goals in the final three quarters and just one in the second half in the loss to the Trojans. Dragon Dincic, Cody Lathouwers, Austin McCall, Eric Marsh and Luka Vukomanovic each had one goal for Cuesta in the loss. Tom Ross (seven saves) and Cody Cartozian (three) split time in goal.
In a 12-9 win against Riverside, the Cougars’ offense got hot early, scoring five first-period goals, giving them a three-goal lead that they would not relinquish.
Matt Giancanelli scored four goals for Cuesta, and Vukomanovic added three. Ross had 18 saves in goal.

Pasadena City Tournament
Cuesta (13-8) finished in third place after splitting their two games Saturday.
Against Citrus, Cuesta rode a 6-1 halftime lead to a 9-5 victory. Alexandria Bernard had five goals, Alex O’Connor had two, and Michaela Billingsly and Julia Tatarian scored one each for the Cougars. Loren Kasenberg had four saves in goal.
Cuesta then finished the tournament with a 10-7 loss to Diablo Valley. Erin Hasenkamp, Carly Glogovac and Bernard all scored two goals, and Amanda Brown scored one for the Cougars. Kasenberg had 11 saves in goal.
