The Cuesta College baseball team erupted for 15 hits Thursday in a 14-7 nonconference win over Fresno City College.
The Cougars (20-14) used a five-run first inning, including a three-run home run by Mike Camporeale to power past the Rams.
Camporeale was 4 for 5 with the home run, a triple, five RBI and two runs scored.
Phillip Gerber earned the win for Cuesta, pitching 21⁄3 innings in relief, giving up two runs on three hits.
Former San Luis Obispo High standout Michael Nieporte was 3 for 4 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored for Cuesta.
Cuesta softball swept by Oxnard
The Cuesta College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Oxnard.
In Game 1, the Cougars fell 6-5 to the Condors. Kelly Lockwood was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Ashley Dooley was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer for Cuesta. Karen Berna gave up four earned runs in the complete-game loss.
In Game 2, Cuesta (12-27, 7-10 Western State Conference-North Division) lost 3-2.
Dooley was 2 for 3, and Liz Isaak gave up two earned runs in another complete-game loss for the Cougars.
Cuesta had runners on first and second with Lockwood up to bat in the top of the seventh, but she popped out to right field to end the game and any chance of a comeback.
