Cuesta College defeated Moorpark College in a Western State Conference baseball game Friday, 15-10.
The Cougars (17-8, 9-2 WSC) were able to jump out to a 7-2 lead after three innings and then poured on six more through the next two. Cuesta then went on to score two more runs in the seventh to grab the win.
Chris Rodgers earned the pitching start for Cuesta and gave up seven hits and three earned runs.
Former San Luis Obispo High standout Darren Mullen went 1 for 2 with four RBI and a home run for Cuesta.

Ventura downs Cuesta in softball
The Ventura College softball team defeated Cuesta College 1-0 in a Western State Conference softball game.
It took just one mistake for Cuesta to fall. Kara Kvasnicka kicked a grounder in the fifth inning, and the runner eventually scored as the Pirates pushed past the Cougars.
Liz Isaak tossed a complete game and gave up five hits while striking out four for Cuesta (9-15, 4-4 WSC).
Cuesta men third, women fourth in WSC track meet
In the 16-team Western State Conference Track and Field Meet held at Ventura College, the Cuesta men placed third with a total of 135 points, and the women climbed up to fourth with 103.
Ventura won both the men’s (198) and women’s (156) titles.
“The women improved quite a bit since the last meet. They are definitely picking up momentum,” Cuesta assistant coach Jani Johnson said. “It was especially evident in how Rachel Murphy and Kasey Urman performed.”
In the last conference meet, the women finished last.
Rachel Murphy, a former Arroyo Grande High star, scored in five events for Cuesta. She won the women’s 100-meter dash in 12.79 seconds and the pole vault at 11 feet, 9 inches. Grace Mann came in second in the pole vault at 9-6.
Kasey Urman, who scored in three events, won the 800 (in 2:21) and placed second in the 1,500 (4:53).
The women also placed second in the 1,600 relay in 4:13.79.
Michael Salvatierra won the men’s 800 in 2:00 for the Cougars, and Danny Thomas took second in the 1,500 at 4:01.
Cal Poly women's tennis team downs Pacific
The Cal Poly women’s tennis team defeated Pacific 4-3 to stay unbeaten in the Big West Conference.
The Mustangs (13-3, 5-0) won their eighth straight match as Jocelyn Davis and Ashley Pane picked up an 8-2 win in doubles, and teammates Gabrielle Gatewood and Florence Lehan won 8-5 to clinch the double point.
Pane had the most successful day in singles for Cal Poly, winning 6-0, 6-1.
