College Roundup: Cuesta baseball team tops Oxnard

The Cuesta College baseball team defeated Oxnard College 7-2 Thursday.

Former San Luis Obispo High star John Tiedemann pitched a complete game, struck out eight and allowed two earned runs.

Andrew Montanari led the offensive effort for the Cougars (16-7, 8-2 Western State Conference). He went 4 for 5 with a double.

Michael Camporeale was 2 for 4 with a home run in the win.

With the score tied 2-2, Cuesta scored four runs in the eighth inning and one more in the ninth.

Cuesta softball splits with Moorpark

The Cuesta College softball team edged Moorpark College 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader before falling 8-5 to the Raiders afterward.Liz Isaak was able to help the Cougars (9-14, 4-3 WSC) grab the win, pitching a complete game.

Cuesta also got help from former Atascadero High standout Ashley Dooley, who hit a three-run home run.

In the second game, Isaak relieved Karen Berna in the fifth inning and allowed three runs en route to the loss.

Former SLO star Abram honored

Former San Luis Obispo High volleyball standout Curtis Abram was recently named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year.

Abram was named first-team all-conference for the Emmanuel College Saints, the 13th-ranked team in Division III. Abram is also the school’s all-time kills leader.

Over the course of this past season, he was named GNAC Player of the Week four times. Abram hit .368, averaging 4.1 kills and .9 aces per set.
