The Cuesta College women’s basketball team defeated Saddleback College 56-49 at the Allan Hancock Tournament on Thursday.
Anika Bauermeister scored 21 points and had seven rebounds for the Cougars, who pulled away with a 32-21 second half.
Paso Robles High grad Kati Sheldon had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Cuesta (2-6), which had a 42-25 rebounding advantage, with 21 of those rebounds being on the offensive end.
“I thought that was the difference in the game today, our offensive rebounding,” Cougars coach Ron Barba said.

All-conference honors for Cuesta women's soccer players
Six Cuesta women’s soccer players earned all-Western State Conference status after the Cougars went 10-8-2 overall this season.
Sophomore Cherich Bonomi and freshman Ruby Navarro-Ortiz were named to the first team. Sophomore Mari Monticelli and freshman Gina Foster were both named to the second team.
Sophomore Sarah Wheeler and Kaysea Woods both earned honorable mention recognition.
