Malte Kramer, a forward for the Cuesta College men’s basketball team, was named the Western State Conference North Division Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Kramer, a 6-foot-7 freshman from Freiburg, Germany, averaged 21 points per game during the Cougars’ Rabobank Tournament. He shot 12 of 24 from 3-point range and made all nine of his free-throw attempts.
Cuesta wrestling team falls
Cuesta College’s wrestling team lost to top-ranked Fresno City College 36-6.

At 184 pounds, the Cougars’ Sean Dougherty edged Fito Juarez 11-8.
The undefeated Dougherty (11-0) had been ranked No. 2 in the state at 197 before dropping down. Juarez came in ranked No. 1 at 184.
At 141, Cuesta (6-4) also picked up a win, as Nestor Ruelas claimed a 6-2 decision over Jorge Navarro.
Cal Poly's Buck honored
Cal Poly sophomore Lacey Buck was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
This past weekend at the Cal Poly Shootout at Anderson Aquatic Center, Buck won the 200-yard butterfly (in 2 minutes, 4.91 seconds), the 500 freestyle (in 5:00.89) and the 1,650 freestyle (16:56.25). Her 1,650 freestyle time is the 11th-fastest in the nation.
