College Roundup: Muller’s 10th-inning homer wins it for Cuesta

The Cuesta College baseball team beat Moorpark 5-4 on the strength of a Ty Muller solo home run in the 10th inning on Tuesday.The Cougars (17-17, 8-10 Western State Conference) took an early lead with four runs in the third, but Moorpark was able to tie it in the eighth.

Michael Camporeale had two hits for the Cougars and Isaiah Kaneakua picked up the win in relief, pitching 11⁄3 innings.

John Brehm picked up the save in getting the final out.


The Cuesta College softball team landed seven players on the All-Western State Conference team, including first-team selections Laura Haines and Breanan Silzer.

Haines, a centerfielder hit .365 and was second on the team with 16 stolen bases while Silzer, a former Templeton High standout hit .260 from the catcher spot and had 18 RBI on the year.

Alex Ramirez, who played for Paso Robles High, and Alyssa Giordanengo formerly of Arroyo Grande High were named to the conference’s second team while Rachel Thompson, Brittani Gregory and Megan Donovan were named honorable mention.


Cal Poly placed two golfers to the all-Big West Conference golf team, including second-team selection Maddy Fletcher, who led the team with a 75.9 average.

Fletcher had seven top-10 finishes, including four second-place finishes and posted three rounds of par or better.

Julia Puscheck earned honorable mention after averaging 77.5 strokes per round, including five top-10 finishes and a runner-up at the Cal State Bakersfield Spring Invitational.

UC Davis swept the Women’s Golfer of the Year (Alice Kim), Freshman of the Year (Amy Simanton) and Coach of the Year (Anne Walker) honors.
