Cuesta College pitcher Cory Ginther helped his team get on track, scattering five hits in a 3-2 victory over Allan Hancock on Thursday in San Luis Obispo.
After the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, Ginther (2-2) shut them down, not allowing a hit the rest of the way while striking out six.
T.J. Filicia and Ty Muller had two hits apiece for the Cougars (9-8, 2-3 Western State Conference).
Cuesta used small ball to produce the winning run in the sixth. Austin Cunningham walked, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout before scoring on another grounder.

The Cougars will have a rematch with Allan Hancock on Saturday in Santa Maria.
SOFTBALLCuesta 2, Oxnard 0With a four-hit shutout by pitcher Rachel Thompson and RBI from Breanan Silzer and Laura Haines, the Cougars moved into a first-place tie in the Western State-Gold Conference with idle Ventura (16-7, 5-1 WSGC).
Cuesta (11-12-1, 5-1 WSGC) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Haines drove in pinch-runner Sam Detwiler. The Cougars got their second run after a Thompson double in the fifth.
Silzer drove in the pitcher with a sacrifice fly after Thompson advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Thompson (11-11) walked five and struck out three in the circle, and the team committed zero errors behind her.“Defensively, this was probably one of our best games,” Cougars coach Mike Steuerwald said. “And offensively at the plate, we executed well and got the sacrifice fly when we needed it.”
