Henok Yigzaw scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Cuesta College men’s basketball team to a 55-40 win over West Hills on Saturday in a consolation semifinal at the Foothill Tournament.
The Cougars (9-2) also got 13 rebounds, 11 points and five assists from Xavier Mylleville.
“(Mylleville) was single handedly keeping us in the game with his board play,” Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said.
A day after committing nine turnovers in a loss to American River, point guard Christian Koutras finished with five assists and no turnovers.
“It’s hard to win when your point guard turns it over nine times,” Blair said. “But (Koutras) turned it around and played solid for us.”West Hills was held to 13 points on 23 percent shooting in the first half.
The Cougars will play Merritt College of Oakland in the consolation final today at noon.
“On paper we’re the favorites,” Blair said. “But (today) is going to be a difficult test against a very athletic team.”
