Cal Poly junior-to-be Jamie Binns qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Golf Championship earlier this week, becoming the first Mustang in the program’s 16-year history to do so, according to a release from the school.
Binns, a San Diego native, tied for third place during a sectional qualifying event Tuesday at the Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier. She carded a final-round 1-over 72 and was one of nine women to advance.
The U.S. Women’s Amateur will be held Aug. 1-7 at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
As a sophomore this year, Binns held a 77.5 scoring average and secured one top-20 finish when she placed 15th at the Lady Mustang Invitational in October at Cypress Ridge.
