CSUN scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 2-1 win over Cal Poly on Sunday in Northridge, completing a series sweep.
The Mustangs (26-20, 7-8 Big West Conference) have been swept in consecutive series.
Jarred Zill tied a career high with eight strikeouts in eight innings, but allowed a single and walk to start the ninth.
Justin Calomeni came on and allowed a hit and walked two in 2/3 of an inning.
Kyle Marinconz was 2 for 4 with a run, and Brett Barbier was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Cal Poly.
Dylan Alexander had two hits, inluding the game-winning RBI single, for CSUN (28-16, 7-11 Big West).
Cal Poly travels to Fresno State on Tuesday for a 6:05 p.m. game.
SOFTBALL Cal Poly loses two of three in Hawaii
Junior right hander Sierra Hyland struck out 20 batters in three appearances over the weekend to move into 10th place in the Big West Conference’s career strikeouts list with 686.
Hyland struck out two in relief in Cal Poly’s 4-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, then five more in 7 1/3 innings in a 1-0 loss in the second game.
Hyland struk out 13 in a 3-2 loss Friday.
A three-run fifth inning was the catalyst for Saturday’s win. Amanda Sandoval was 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Courtney Tyler was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Tyler’s RBI single in the sixth inning was the game-winner. Stephanie Heyward also had two hits and scored a run for Cal Poly (24-23, 7-11 Big West).
In the second game, Hawaii (23-28, 7-11 Big West) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to win it. Hyland allowed two hits and two walks in the loss, and Cal Poly was limited to just two hits.
