The Cal Poly women’s tennis team saw its 2016 season come to an end Thursday morning.
Top-ranked Long Beach State eliminated the Mustangs, 4-0, during the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The highlight of the match for eighth-seeded Cal Poly came when junior Zoe Oedekerk and senior Dané Joubert defeated the 34th-ranked doubles pairing in the country. Competing at No. 1 doubles, Oedekerk and Joubert held off Long Beach State’s Laura Eales and Hayley Thomspon, 6-3.
Oedekerk and Joubert finished the season with four victories at the No. 1 doubles position.
The 49ers went on to win the other two doubles matches and cruised to three victories in singles play to advance into Friday’s semifinals.
The Mustangs concluded the year with a 4-16 overall record.
