Cal Poly softball team edges CSUN for home win

The Cal Poly softball team avoided a sweep with a 1-0 win over CSUN on Sunday at Bob Janssen Field.

Sierra Hyland (11-4) threw a two-hit shutout for the Mustangs (21-20, 4-8 Big West Conference). She struck out three.

Amanda Sandoval scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning, coming home from second when Courtney Tyler hit an infield single off the glove of CSUN pitcher Daphne Pofek. Tyler finished 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Stephanie Heyward and Chelsea Convissar also had hits for Cal Poly.

Pofek (14-6) allowed five hits and one run for the Matadors (27-20, 7-5 Big West).
