The Cal Poly men’s golf team won its second team championship of the year, claiming the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Sandpiper Golf Club.
Jimmy Castles finished fourth for the Mustangs with a final-round 72 for a 3-under 213 total and Cole Nygren, Justin De Los Santos and Jess Yap each finished in the top 10.
As a team, Cal Poly record a four-person 291 total on the par-72 course. Cal Poly led by seven strokes after two rounds on Monday, followed by Grand Canyon, which was 10 strokes back. Santa Barbara was third with a 10-over 874 total.
The Mustangs were the only team in the field of nine to finish under par.
CSUN’s Felix Mory was the medalist, carding an 8-under 208 total, and was followed by Brandon Bauman of UC Santa Barba and Daniel Chian of Long Beach State, who tied for second at 212.
Nygren tied for fifth with Mark Cobery of Cal State Fullerton after carding a final-round 73 for a 214 total.
Poly’s reigning Big West Conference individual champion Justin De Los Santos shot a final-round 73 for a 217 total and eighth place. Yap also carded a 73 on Tuesday for a 218 total and 10th place.
Cam Price was 44th at 231 for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly also won the Del Walker Classic hosted by Long Beach State on March 1.
Cal Poly will compete in the Big West Conference Championship beginning May 2 at the Wood Ranch Country Club in Simi Valley.
