Prep girls basketball: Atascadero, Mission Prep fall

Santa Maria 63, Atascasero 52

Santa Maria pulled away in the fourth quarter against the Atascadero girls basketball team Tuesday to win by a final score of 63-52.

Atascadero (3-6) trailed by one point heading into the third quarter. Ten points each from Brianna Villanueva and Sabrina Van Beek wasn’t enough to over come a potent Saints offense.

Atascadero’s problems were compounded when two key players — Taylor Degnan and Reylyssa Reyes —fouled out in the final frame.

The Greyhounds take on Pioneer Valley at noon on Wednesday.

Poway 52, Mission Prep 38

Mission Prep was held to just six points in the fourth quarter in a 52-38 loss to Poway on Tuesday.

Noelle Laird scored three of the team’s six points in the final quarter and led the Royals in scoring with 11 points to go with five rebounds in the loss.

Ani Boncich grabbed 10 rebounds and scored four points for Mission Prep (6-4) and Jacqueline San Jule added eight points.

Mission Prep will face San Marcos at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Pioneer Valley 60, Templeton 31

Hot shooting in the third quarter helped Pioneer Valley to a 60-31 win over Templeton on Tuesday night.

Templeton trailed 23-20 at the half, but the Panthers hit 6 three-point shots in the third quarter to break the game open.

Annie Elterman had 11 points for Templeton (4-5) and Haley Hurdle added 10 rebounds.

“It was just one of those days,” Templeton coach Shawn Koehler said.

Templeton takes on rival Paso Robles on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Righetti 63, Paso Robles 47

Grace Rosa led the way for Paso Robles with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a talented Righetti team.

Kristen Thompson had 10 and Tessie Cabello added 9 points in the loss.

“We played a solid first half,” Paso Robles coach Heidi Sill said. “But we could not answer to their outside shooting in the second half.”
