Cal Poly’s Goodwin wins wrestling title at Fresno tournament

Cal Poly’s J.T. Goodwin won the individual title at 197 pounds at the Roadrunner Open on Sunday at Selland Arena in Fresno.

Goodwin pinned Reuben Franklin of CSU Bakersfield in just 57 seconds for the title after earlier earning two major decisions and a win by decision to reach the final. Goodwin has four pins in his first seven bouts this season.

Colt Shorts took second place at 157 pounds, losing a 12-4 major decision in the final to Lorenzo De La Riva of CSU Bakersfield.

Jason DelaCruz earned third at 133 pounds, Matt Wilhelm was fourth at 165, and Colton Schilling (141), Jacob Leon (149) and Andrew Morgan (174) each placed fifth.

Cal Poly is in action again Saturday at Gilroy High School, taking on Old Dominion in a nonconference dual.
