Seniors Kip Colvey and Chase Minter each scored second-half goals to help the Cal Poly men’s soccer team overcome an early deficit before the Mustangs fell 3-2 in overtime against UC Davis in a Big West Conference match Wednesday at Aggies Soccer Field.
Cal Poly (7-3-3, 2-1-2) went to overtime for the third time in its past four matches and UC Davis’ Lucas Mohageg scored five minutes into the extra period to seal the victory.
Colvey scored his second goal of the season in the 67th minute off an assist from Minter. Minter followed with his fourth goal in the 85th minute to tie the score.
The Mustangs outshot UC Davis 15-13 overall and held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.
The Aggies (7-6-1, 3-1-1) got both of their first-half goals from Roy Boateng in the 18th and 26th minutes. Mohageg’s game-winner came in the 95th minute and improved his team-leading total to seven goals this season, the second-best mark in the Big West.
Cal Poly hosts UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Saturday.
