Former San Luis Obispo High standout Christine Hoffman led the UC Davis women to victory with a second-place finish, and both of Cal Poly’s cross country teams finished second at the Big West Conference Championships on Saturday at UC Riverside’s Ag/Ops Course.
UC Riverside’s Raquel Hefflin won on her home 6K course in 20 minutes, 12.6 seconds, followed by Hoffman in 20:20.7. UC Davis won the team title with a score of 36. Cal Poly finished with 66 and UC Santa Barbara had 86.
Sophomore Ashley Windsor had Cal Poly’s top finish in eighth place (20:53.1). Other notables were freshman Sydney Sazbo in 10th place with a time of 21:01.3, senior Ashley Bergstom in 11th at 21:08.6, freshman Sara Van Dyke (17th, 21:37.0), junior Melissa Eisele (20th, 21:42.0), sophomore Meghan Breadmore (23rd, 21:47.5) and sophomore Mary Jo Wright (24th, 21:50.5).
In the men’s 8K race, Clayton Hutchins was sixth overall for Cal Poly’s highest individual finish, posting a 24:15.0 time. Hutchins was the top finisher for the Mustangs for a team-leading third time this year. Luis Morales followed Hutchins in seventh (24:19.5) and sophomore Dimitri Voytilla was eighth with a time of 24:23.8.
Other scoring Mustangs included junior Tyler Huntley (10th, 24:28.8), sophomore Riess Haslam (18th, 24:45.0), redshirt freshman Eric Sindel (21st, 24:49.6) and sophomore Eric Hayden (22nd, 24:54.2).
UC Santa Barbara’s Bryan Guijarro won the race in 23:47.4, leading the Gauchos to the title with 21 points. The Gaucho’s had four runners place in the top five. The Mustangs finished with 49 and host UC Riverside was third with 95.
