COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Late goal lifts Cal Poly women's soccer team to win

Elsie Krieghoff scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute to lift the Cal Poly women’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over UC Riverside on Sunday in Riverside, the Mustangs’ third conference victory in a row.

The goal is Krieghoff’s 13th of the season and the 45th of her career, which ties the school record.

Sara Lancaster scored in the 27th minute, and Megan Abutin scored in the 67th minute for Cal Poly (9-8-0, 4-2-0 Big West Conference).

Abutin also assisted on Krieghoff’s goal, giving her 11 for the season, one off the single-season school record.

The Mustangs moved into a tie with Cal State Northridge atop the Big West standings.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti made two saves for the Mustangs.

Celina Valencia and Amber Marani scored for UC Riverside (7-6-3, 2-3-1).

Cal Poly hosts UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.

Cal Poly at ITA Southwest Regional Championships

Cal Poly’s Ben Donovan lost to USC’s Jonny Wang in the round of 16.

Wang won 7-5, 6-4 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.

In the consolation singles bracket, Cal Poly’s Devin Barber beat Grand Canyon’s Meidy Chazeau 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Barber advances to play San Diego’s Romain Kalaydjian today.
