Fast start lifts Cal Poly women's soccer team past Hawaii

The Cal Poly women’s soccer team scored twice in the game’s opening 20 minutes and held on to down Hawaii 2-0 on Sunday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

The Mustangs (7-8-0, 2-2-0 Big West Conference) took a 1-0 lead when a Hawaii defender deflected a header by Gianna Rosati into the Rainbow Wahini goal in the 12th minute.

Seven minutes later, Elise Krieghoff scored off a Sara Lancaster assist. The goal is  the 43rd of Krieghoff’s career, two off the school record.

The assist is Lancaster’s 39th career point, which is tied for 15th in Mustangs history.

Cal Poly goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti had four saves in posting the shutout.

Hawaii falls to 6-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Big West.
