COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Cal Poly men's golf in fourth at Watney Invite

Thanks to a strong round on Monday by local product Mitch Martin, the Cal Poly men’s golf team is in fourth place through two rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational hosted by Fresno State at Sunnyside Country Club.

Martin, an Arroyo Grande High graduate, shot a 3-under 69 on the 6,950-yard course and is tied for fourth overall at 5-under through two days.

Teammate Cam Price is tied for 11th overall at 1-over with the final round taking place today.

The Mustangs are tied for fourth with Cal State Northridge at 575 strokes, trailing third-place UC Irvine by four. Pacific is in first with a 551 total, led by Byron Meth, who leads the field at 9-under.

Donovan opens tourney with victory

Cal Poly sophomore Ben Donovan defeated 86th-ranked Hunter Callahan of Ohio State in his first match at the ITA All-American tennis championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Donovan won the match 6-3, 7-5 against the All-Big Ten Conference player. Donovan will face North Carolina’s Jack Murray in the second round this morning.
