Former Cal Poly wrestler Chad Mendes is scheduled to fight champion José Aldo for the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight title on Oct. 25 in Rio de Janeiro, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Mendes (16-1) is the top-ranked featherweight contender. He has won five straight fights since suffering his only professional mixed martial arts loss via a first-round knockout against Aldo (24-1) on Jan. 14, 2012, also in Rio de Janeiro.
The title rematch between the heated rivals was originally set for Aug. 2 in Los Angeles, but was postponed after an injury for Aldo surfaced shortly before the bout, and the showdown will now be held instead in Aldo’s native Brazil, according to the report.
