Jonae Ervin scored a career-high 37 points, and the Cal Poly women’s basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit in the first half to beat Hawaii 78-74 in overtime late Wednesday night.
Ervin also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the Big West Conference opener for both teams.
Ariana Elegado had 15 points for the Mustangs (7-7), Molly Schlemer had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Taryn Garza added seven points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs, who will host UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Cal Poly trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, fought back within 37-28 at halftime, and sent the game into overtime when Garza scored on a rebound putback at the regulation buzzer.
Sydney Haydel led Hawaii (6-7) with 18 points. Kamilah Jackson scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Hawaii, and Ashleigh Karaitiana came off the bench to add 15 points.
