Molly Schlemer had 24 points and 16 rebounds, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team lost 83-76 at Portland on Wednesday night after the Pilots made clutch free throws down the stretch.
Beth Balbierz made two free throws with 1:19 remaining to give the Mustangs a 76-75 lead. Portland responded with a layup to take the lead back. On the ensuing possession, Ariana Elegado turned the ball over and the Pilots (6-4) responded with another layup.
Portland stole the ball again on the next Cal Poly (6-5) possession and made its last four free throws of the game to seal it. Portland was 19 for 21 on free-throw attempts in the second half and finished the game on an 8-0 run.
Elegado had 16 points and four rebounds. Jonae Ervin had eight points and five assists.

Portland started quick, garnering a 12-point lead in the first half, but the game tightened up in the end with 10 ties and 11 lead changes.
Cassandra Brown came off the bench to lead the Pilots with 21 points, including a 9-for-9 effort from the free-throw line with five rebounds. Amy Pupa had 12 points and nine rebounds.
