Kim Westlund’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning marked the decisive blow as the Cal Poly softball team concluded its series against UC Santa Barbara with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday at Bob Janssen Field.
The Gauchos (25-17, 6-6 Big West Conference) scored their only run in the top of the first as Keilani Jennings doubled to score Jessica Soria.
The Mustangs (18-26-1, 7-8) erased the early deficit in the bottom of the first as first baseman Breana West hit her first career triple down the right field line to score Westlund, who had walked.
Cal Poly got the winning runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Westlund hit a single inside third base and down the left field line to score Jillian Andersen and Cami Brown.

Dome wins weekly Big West honor
Cal Poly senior and Arroyo Grande native Andre Dome took home the Big West men’s tennis athlete of the week honors, following two Mustangs road victories over UC Davis and Pacific by identical 5-2 scores.
Dome, ranked No. 25 nationally in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over UC Davis’ Toki Sherbakov and defeated Pacific’s Sem Verbeek 6-2, 6-0.
In addition to improving to 17-2 in dual singles matches, Dome partnered with Jordan Bridge for a pair of doubles wins over UC Davis (8-4) and Pacific (8-6).
