Jimmy Allen’s bases-clearing double capped Cal Poly’s four-run fourth inning, and the Mustangs beat Washington 5-1 in Sunday’s rubber match, continuing their strong start to the season.
Denver Chavez broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the fourth inning for Cal Poly (9-1) before Allen hit a bases-loaded double to put the Mustangs up 5-1.
Bryan Granger (3-0) got the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out three. Cal Poly’s Reed Reilly earned his fifth save, coaxing a groundout from Joe Meggs with two runners on in the bottom of the ninth.
Tyler Davis (0-1) allowed five runs in 3 2⁄3 innings for the Huskies (3-8).

Chavez had two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI. Peter Van Gansen also had two hits for Cal Poly. Nick Torres capped his hot-hitting series with an RBI double in the first, finishing 5 for 12 in the three games with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI.
