Cal Poly signs seven baseball players

The Cal Poly baseball team signed seven high school players to National Letters of Intent, the school announced Tuesday.

The group includes five pitchers and a pair of infielders.

“This is a solid recruiting class from a pitching standpoint that will fill some of the needs we have, especially on the pitching end of the equation,” Mustangs head coach Larry Lee said in a news release. “We’re still looking to add on to this class in the spring with another player or two for the 2014 season.”

The early signing period opened Nov. 14 and ended Wednesday. The regular signing period for baseball opens April 17 and ends Aug. 1.

The incoming players include pitchers Joey Caffese (St. Mary’s High, Stockton), Justin Calomeni (Bellarmine Prep, San Jose), Cameron Cotton (The Athenian School, Danville), Jearl Jesson (Shadow Hills, Bermuda Dunes) and Nick Suniga (Bishop Alemany, Granada Hills) and infielders Kevin Morgan (Santiago, Corona) and Alec Smith (Quartz Hill, Quartz Hill).
