The Cal Poly men’s soccer team used three second-half goals to defeat visiting Temple 4-1 at Alex. G Spanos Stadium on Friday night.
George Maki struck first for the Mustangs (3-2) in the seventh minute, but the Owls would tie it before halftime when Chas Wilson scored off of a rebound when Cal Poly goalkeeper Chase Hauser stopped Jared Martinelli’s shot.
But it was all Mustangs in the second half, highlighted by two goals from Chris Bernardi. Chris Gaschen extended a 2-1 lead with a 77th-minute goal for Cal Poly.
The Mustangs limited Temple to four second-half shots, none of which were on goal.

Cuesta 2, Sacramento 0
The Cougars scored two second-half goals to defeat Sacramento at home.
Tanya Khaledi scored both goals for Cuesta off rebounds from Niesha Diaz and Madison Samora, respectively.
Goalkeeper Julia Poladian had five saves.
Utah 3, Cal Poly 0; Utah Valley 3, Cal Poly 1
The Mustangs (1-9) lost to Utah 25-13, 25-23, 25-21 before falling to Utah Valley 26-28, 26-24, 25-21, 30-28 in the Utah Classic in Salt Lake City.
Holly Franks led Cal Poly with eight kills against the Pac-12 Utes. Steffi Sooter had a team-high 11 digs, and Maddie Kuber had nine digs, 13 assists and five blocks.
Molly Pon led Cal Poly with 12 kills against Utah Valley.
Marianne Gera had 10 kills, Hannah Schleis had nine kills and Megan McConnell had eight kills and 12 digs for the Mustangs. Maddie Kuber had 41 assists, five kills and 15 digs, and Sooter added a team-high 22 digs for Cal Poly.
El Camino 3, Cuesta 2; Antelope Valley 3, Cuesta 2
The Cougars narrowly lost both of their matches at the Mesa Invitational in San Diego.
Against El Camino, Cuesta fell 25-20, 22-25, 26-28, 25-21, 15-5. Riley Cook led the Cougars with 11 kills and 14 digs.
Victoria Burkett had nine kills, and Stephanie Persky had seven kills, nine digs and four blocks for Cuesta.
Cuesta fell to Antelope Valley 23-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18, 15-12.
Kylie Gacad had 42 assists and 14 digs for Cuesta. Cook had 12 kills and 18 digs, and Lauren Chapman added 19 kills for the Cougars.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Cuesta 10, American River College 7; Long Beach 16, Cuesta 8
The Cougars (6-3) split two games at their own tournament.
Juan Valdez had four goals for Cuesta in the win over American River.
Matt Giancanelli added three for Cuesta, and Spencer Silva, Austin McCall, and Stephen Hendrickson added one goal each. Goalkeeper Brady Moore had 14 saves.
Lucas Lastra had three goals for Cuesta in its loss to Long Beach, ranked second in the state.
Giancanelli added two goals and McCall, Jeremy MacAlpine, and Georan Meendering scored one each. Moore had seven saves.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Cuesta 8, Ohlone 2; Cuesta 7, Cabrillo 6
At the Nyquist Invitational in Saratoga, the Cougars (5-1) had five goals from Shanae Lauridsen and three from Erin Casey in the win over Ohlone.
Bianca Magno had nine saves in goal for Cuesta.
Against Cabrillo, the Cougars jumped out to a 4-2 lead at halftime and held on for the narrow victory.
Lauridsen had four goals, and Haylie Fry, Temma Curry and Bailey Kelley had one each for Cuesta.
The Cougars will face Diablo Valley at 9:50 a.m. and Foothill at 4:50 p.m. today.
